SPE 89981 Predicting the Impact of Non-Newtonian Rheology on Relative Permeability Using Pore-Scale Modeling

چکیده
Introduction Copyright 2004, Society of Petroleum Engineers Inc. There are many aspects of hydrocarbon production processes where understanding the flow of non-Newtonian fluids in porous media is of great interest. These include well drilling and construction, reservoir stimulation and production. In particular, complex polymeric solutions have been used for water-control purposes or to enhance oil recovery during secondary water flooding of reservoirs. Because of high viscosity and enhanced stability, these polymer-thickened solutions can act as effective mobility control during improved oil recovery applications. This paper was prepared for presentation at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition held in Houston, Texas, U.S.A., 26–29 September 2004.

Predictive Pore-Scale Modeling of Single and Multiphase Flow
We show how to predict flow properties for a variety of rocks using pore-scale modeling with geologically realistic networks. The pore space is represented by a topologically disordered lattice of pores connected by throats that have angular cross-sections. We successfully predict single-phase non-Newtonian rheology, and two and three-phase relative permeability for water-wet media. The pore si...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of the Effect of Pore Structure and Geometry on Petrophysical and Electrical Properties of Tight Media: Random Network Modeling
Several methodologies published in the literature can be used to construct realistic pore networks for simple rocks, whereas in complex pore geometry formations, as formed in tight reservoirs, such a construction still remains a challenge. A basic understanding of pore structure and topology is essential to overcome the challenges associated with the pore scale modeling of tight porous media. A...
متن کاملSPE 135506 Pore Scale Simulation of Flow in Porous Media Using Lattice-Boltzmann Computer Simulations
We describe the ongoing development of lattice-Boltzmann (LB) computer simulation codes to study flow in porous media at the pore scale. LB simulations have evolved over the past decade and are now used as a tool to calculate both singleand multi-phase flow properties directly at the pore scale using X-ray Micro Tomography (XMT) pore space images. We will review the development of our codes to ...
متن کاملLab and Field Scale Modeling of Near Miscible CO2 Injection in Different Porous Mediums
The main purpose of this investigation is to study the effect of near miscible CO2 injection in different porous mediums on both lab and field scales. This effect can be traced by the change of two-phase gas-oil relative permeability curves. In this work, the experiments have been performed on three rock types (i.e. sandstone, dolomite, and artificial fractured sandstone) based on an incrementa...
